Formerly called the Gold Coast, Ghana is Africa’s biggest gold miners after South Africa. It is located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean in the sub region of West African. The name comes from the ancient Ghana Empire which means “warrior king”. They were the first African country to gain independence from the colonial powers in March 6th, 1957. They have enjoyed increasingly stable and deepening democratic governance, youth and gender empowerment. They are rich in mineral resources and endowed with a good education system and efficient civil service, they have also made significant progress in poverty reduction. Nonetheless Ghana began to have problems when they fell victim to corruption and mismanagement of national resources just after independence. O Lord, revive thy work – Habakkuk 3:2; 2Chr 7:14; Psalm 85: 6 This phrase is taken from a prayer by the prophet Habakkuk. Hearing what the Lord had said, he was afraid because it involved the destruction of Judah. He prays that God will manifest His wrath upon Judah and Chaldea, but he also asks Him to be merciful. He wanted God to discipline Judah and destroy Babylon. It was a prayer for a fresh manifestation of God’s power along with a full measure of His pardon. It seems to me that our nations of the earth are in line for the wrath of God to be manifested. If there ever was a day when a spiritual revival was desperately needed, it is now. (Scriptural Verses: Habakkuk 3:1-2) The Book of Habakkuk 3:1 indicates that this beautiful heart-felt prayer for revival, offered by the prophet around 600 BC, was originally set to music or became a poetic song. Habakkuk prayed because revival was desperately needed. God’s people had become forgetful, formal and careless in their devotion and obedience to God. They had almost lost their testimony, God’s holy name was not honored, and His kingdom was not being extended. How relevant this study is for our own times! - Because our greatest need today is for spiritual revival. Our greatest need is not for more evangelistic meetings (although we thank God for these), for more money or for better methods. There are two kinds of means requisite to promote a revival: the one to influence man, the other to influence God. The truth is employed to influence men, and prayer to move God. When I speak of moving God, I do not mean that God's mind is changed by prayer, or that His disposition or character is changed. But prayer produces such a change in us as renders it consistent for God to do as it would not be consistent for Him to do otherwise. When a sinner repents, that state of feeling makes it proper for God to forgive him.
