What is the purpose of faith? Faith is God’s chosen vehicle to get His salvation and His blessings to you in a controlled and legal way. Now, there is more to that statement than we can cover in one article, but here is one thought – We have the promises so that we might be partakers of God’s salvation, character, and blessings. The purpose of Salvation and the purpose of faith is to turn promises into reality.

Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. Through these, He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, now that you have escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge;… II Peter 1:2-5a

Faith and believing are how we access God and everything God has. John 3:16 talks about God loving the whole world, but it goes on to say that only believers would share in His eternal life and be spared from judgement. That eternal life, by the way, starts now and not when we die. Through faith we can share in His eternal life, eternal salvation, and eternal will – now in this life, and of course, in the life to come. Through faith we can live in the benefits of His eternal Kingdom. That is why the Lord’s prayer states, “Your will be done on earth as it (already) is in Heaven (Matthew 6:10).

Again, one of the main purposes of the Bible is to turn the promises of God into our earthly realities. They are already spiritual realities in Heaven. The purpose of prayer is to make ‘the will be done as it is (already) in Heaven, and the purpose of believing is to get our prayers answered.

So, what is the purpose of the Bible? Is it to show us all the things we’re doing wrong? Is it to show us what we will have only in the next life? Or is it merely religious literature? No to all these things. The purpose of the Bible is the turn God’s will in heaven into God’s will in the Earth. The purpose of the Bible is to turn the spiritual realities of His promises into physical realities in our life. God can do that when we believe His promises. It is real and He is real.
