The 8 Prayer Watches Explained

Biblical Prayer Strategy for Modern Watchmen on the Walls Explained This is about prayer watches Historically, watchmen on walls were individuals charged with protecting their communities from danger. In the Bible, Isaiah 62:6-7 refers to watchmen as people who “shall never rest until her (Jerusalem’s) righteousness goes forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.” This suggests that watchmen have a spiritual role in guarding cities against destruction and evil forces. They would sound warnings when an enemy approached and act as eyes for citizens of their city, alerting them to potential dangers. Watchmen also served an important role by keeping track of who was coming into or leaving the city. By monitoring these activities, they could protect the citizens from false prophets or spies disguised as travelers. In Ezekiel, God warns against those who look out for their own safety instead of sounding an alarm when danger approaches. It shows that it is the responsibility of watchmen to sound the alarm. Ezekiel 33:6-7“But...

The Fourth Watch”

What was the “fourth watch”? (Matthew 14:25) “And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.” A Biblical story is mentioned in both the Gospels of Matthew and Mark: “Now in the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went to them, walking on the sea…. Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Be of good cheer! It is I do not be afraid. (Matt.14:25-27 and Mark 6:48-50). It is, within this period, probably at the beginning of it, after three o’clock in the morning, Christ came to his disciples, when they had been almost all the night at sea, tossed with waves, and in great danger. The Hebrew watch was divided into three watches, the first, middle and morning watch. As the Roman influence and supremacy was established, the number of watches increased to four and were described in numerical order 1st (6 pm – 9 pm); 2nd (9 pm – 12 am); 3rd (12 am – 3...

The Watches of the Night

What are the Watches of the Night? Introduction The Jews, like the Greeks and Romans, divided the night into military watches instead of hours, each watch representing the period for which sentinels or pickets remained on duty. The proper Jewish reckoning recognized only three such watches, entitled the first or "beginning of the watches" (Lamentations 2:19), the middle watch (Judges 7:19) and the morning watch. (Exodus 14:24; 1 Samuel 11:11) These would last respectively from sunset to 10 P.M.; from 10 P.M. to 2 A.M.; and from 2 A.M. to sunrise. After the establishment of the Roman supremacy, the number of watches was increased to four, which were described either according to their numerical order, as in the case of the "fourth watch" (Matthew 14:25) or by the terms "even," "midnight," "cock-crowing," and "morning." (Mark 13:35) These terminated respectively at 9 P.M., midnight, 3 A.M. and 6 A.M. In the Old Testament times the night was divided into three parts of four hours each,...

Prayer For the Lost

Intercessory Prayer For Lost Souls Do you know that saying a prayer for lost souls can redeem them today? First of all, who is a lost soul?  If you are not born again, you might not understand the phrase lost soul. Basically, a lost soul is someone without direction. Biblically, a lost soul is someone that is not saved and Jesus refers to those who did not believe in him and receive the message of salvation as lost souls. Before I got born again, I was adamant about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many times, my late mum would tell me to give my life to Christ and repent from my worldly ways. I never listened nor did I care. I was a chained smoker and a drunkard, I thought I was enjoying life not knowing that I was lost in the world. She never stopped praying for me, she was never tired and I can tell you that her prayer worked...

Reflection Sixty percent of all the prayer requests we receive concern marriage and or finance; particularly debt, job, rent, urgent financial need, miracle supplies, etc. From experience, we know that sometimes the enemy could build a siege against one’s finances, causing extreme financial scarcity, disfavour, and lack of a breakthrough. Let’s see 2 Kings 6:24-25: Sometime later, Ben-Hadad king of Aram mobilized his entire army and marched up and laid siege to Samaria. There was a great famine in the city; the siege lasted so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty...
