Though Jesus came down by reason of the love of God, he also came with additional assignments. And one of them was to stir up the fire in you and me to battle the enemy. Jesus declares in Luke 12:49 “I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled"! Called to fight The Christian life is one of constant warfare and battles. Failure to understand this will lead to disappointments and frustration. In the scripture above, Paul reminded Timothy that God has called him to be a soldier and should see himself as a soldier. But why should we see ourselves as soldiers? Because man was created at a time when there was war and darkness was already on the earth. In Genesis 1, it can clearly be seen that God didn’t destroy the Darkness but separated it from the Light. The Darkness here stands for the kingdom of Satan. The Devil and his angels were casted down to the earth waiting for their final judgement. The responsibility was to keep the Devil and his angels out of the affairs of men. We were to follow the footsteps of God by separating the light from the Darkness. Formerly called the Gold Coast, Ghana is Africa’s biggest gold miners after South Africa. It is located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean in the sub region of West African. The name comes from the ancient Ghana Empire which means “warrior king”. They were the first African country to gain independence from the colonial powers in March 6th, 1957. O Lord, revive thy work – Habakkuk 3:2; 2Chr 7:14; Psalm 85: 6 This phrase is taken from a prayer by the prophet Habakkuk. Hearing what the Lord had said, he was afraid because it involved the destruction of Judah. He prays that God will manifest His wrath upon Judah and Chaldea, but he also asks Him to be merciful. He wanted God to discipline Judah and destroy Babylon. It was a prayer for a fresh manifestation of God’s power along with a full measure of His pardon. (Scriptural Verses: Habakkuk 3:1-2) The Book of Habakkuk 3:1 indicates that this beautiful heart-felt prayer for revival, offered by the prophet around 600 BC, was originally set to music or became a poetic song. Habakkuk prayed because revival was desperately needed. God’s people had become forgetful, formal and careless in their devotion and obedience to God. They had almost lost their testimony, God’s holy name was not honored, and His kingdom was not being extended. How relevant this study is for our own times! - Because our greatest need today is for spiritual revival. Our greatest need is not for more evangelistic meetings (although we thank God for these), for more money or for better methods. The greatest need is for spiritual revival, for a fresh infusion of divine life into the Church, for an awakening in the lives of God’s people and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
